THE Indian Community of Salisbury (ICS) celebrated its third annual Diwali event in Coombe Bissett.
Diwali is the festival of lights and the event on Saturday was attended by about 200 guests including 60 children, the Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr John Lindley, and MP John Glen.
The guests were welcomed by traditional Diya (lamp) dance. The evening was made up of a packed entertainment programme including Bollywood dancing by the Desi Nach dance group, Hindi melody songs, shlokas (prayers) and dance performances by the members of the community showcasing Indian culture.
A three-course Indian buffet dinner was followed by a fireworks display to mark the festival of lights. Organisers say the event was “hugely successful thanks to a dedicated team of ICS volunteers”.
